I am doing a mock trial in which i have to fight for infertility against adoption… and I’m finding it hard to find many differences between the two. There are so many similarities: costs are on the high side, there is pain (emotional/physical), long waits, neither is guaranteed, there are financial programs availible, there are intrusive questions/processes.. etc.

Can anyone help me by giving me information on how they differ in some ways? I know there are differences in costs and in waitint periods most of the time (fluctuates depending on the situation), but anything else?? Thank you so much!
The mock trial is not merely based on this, but my expertise in the trial is in infertility treatments and I am going against someone who has adoption as an expertise.. :).. the case is ethics-based, but it is also based on a real court case where a husband and wife were both infertile and both carriers for cystic fibrosis and when the doctor found out, he cancelled the ICSI infertility treatment they were supposed to undergo saying that they weren’t meant to have children (and WHY is he an infertility doctor???).. but we are advocating for the parents.

Infertility is a major problem facing couples and newly weds. The treatment for infertility has been under research since the early days. And from 200AD onwards, there had been many ways to conceived and treat infertility. Couples can now try several methods of addressing this problem. And the role of Chinese medicine is crucial when it comes to this health concern.

However, as far as the researches are concerned, there is yet a single herb that can be used against fertility. The treatment of infertility depends upon countless of factors. Diagnosis might be required prior to the recommendation of certain herbs to treat infertility. A Chinese medical expert would have to determine first what deficiency, stagnancy, and heat the couple or the soon-to-be mother suffers from so that the right medication would be given.

For kidney and liver weakness, Chinese herbs such as ginseng, tang-kuei, eclipta, and epimedium can be prescribed. These herbs can nourish the qi, blood, yin, and yang respectively. They are best used to address concerns such as aching of the legs and back, frequent urination, impotence, irregular body temperature, and irregular menstruation.

Stagnancy is best treated with Chinese herbs such as red peony, salvia, carthamus, and persica. Stagnancy pertains to the condition wherein the reproductive organs are functioning but not at par with what is required to conceive. Hormonal problems belong to this group as well. By taking the herbs indicated above, the good functions of the organs are restored and the normal hormonal levels are restored. Stagnation is often characterized by the tense muscles, tumors, and swellings.

Heat issues are often treated with Chinese herbs such as gardenia, lonicera, partrinia, and phellodendron. When organs functions abnormally, heat is the most common culprit. Heat is also believed to be the root cause of male infertility as well as female gynecologic infections. To inhibit further infections of the organs and reduce inflammation, take the herbs listed above under the guidance of a licensed Chinese herbal expert.

In men, the Lui Wei Di Huang formulation is best recommended for infertility caused by low sperm count and low fluid volume when ejaculating. This Chinese herb formulation can address the kidney yin deficiency. On women, Chinese bitters can be used to address the excessive damp in the body. This is most recommended to overweight women.

Herbs such as the Yin Yang Huo, He Shou Wu, and Du Zhong can help considerably as well. These herbs address the vacuity of the kidney jing and the kidney yang. For infertility caused by the deficiency of the liver blood and yin, Dang Gui, Bai Shao, and Chuan Xiong are advised.

Other Chinese herbal medicines that can help with infertility are:

Cure Infertility With Qi Gung Treatment

This treatment is an energy healing exercise that enhances the flow of specific meridians into the body.

It can be combined with acupuncture and several Chinese herbal formulas. Qi Gung is a meditative, dance-like movement that coordinates one’s visualizations as it oxygenates the blood. It also enhances ones artistic nature at the same time.

Tang Kwei Pill Formula For Infertility

This medicine can be used as a daily supplement to maintain one’s impeccable health.

Taking this formula regularly can help treat deficiencies such as menstrual irregularities, palpitations, and most of all, infertility.

Take this medicine twice a day on an empty stomach. Take four to six tablets daily as a health maintenance regimen.

Take it for a minimum of one month up to a maximum of eleven months.

Chinese Bitters and Coptis For Infertility Treatment

Chinese bitters and coptis are proven to be effective for women who suffer from infertility. This Chinese medicine can help in inducing menstruation to those who has amenorrhea. It exerts downward pressure, which helps fertilized ovum to go down and get implanted in the uterus. Take this medicine in the first half of your menstrual cycle.

You have to stop taking the medicine during the period of pregnancy, though. You may take it again during the next ovulation period.

My fiance and I have been trying to get pregnant, and I am interested in any fertility diet supplements, vitamins, or anything that you can put in to food or drink that can help boost or aid in this subject. Is there any out there - mostly that I don’t need to go to a doctor for?

The uncovering of problems in infertility requires both participants are examined in parallel procedures so as to give equal treatment for them. This may in the end, reveal where the fault lies. In infertility treatment programs, both participant are vital units for examination from which the parameters of the procedures are largely founded.

Why is this procedure vital? Only because male factors and female factors along with the shared factors have equal standing in infertility.

But let us focus our discussion on male infertility.

The cornerstone of all male infertility cases is laid on the comprehensive examination and detailing of the history of the condition. The latter though may not implicitly deal on infertility or fertility alone, rather on the conditions and diseases that may have probably led to the unwanted towards infertile.

Certain childhood conditions such as mumps, injuries on the genitals, testicular trauma and exposure to adverse environments may contribute largely on the development of the condition.

Advanced puberty may be a good indication of the development of the adrenal-genital syndrome. On the other hand, delayed puberty may be indicative of Klinefelter’s syndrome, both of which are contributors to infertility which can develop later in the male’s life.

Other details should also be gathered to discover what really have caused the condition. Say for example the exposure of the person towards harmful environmental substances such as radiation, excessive heat and environmental toxins.

Cancer patients are definitely one of those people that stand as possible patients of infertility. As we have earlier noted, too much heat may cause infertility since it exposes the sperms to temperatures they were not accustomed to. Since sperm cells are the vehicle to form fertilization and since they are very sensitive to extreme changes in temperature, they may loose potency and may not serve their primary functions since they will most likely meet premature death inside the testes.

History of medications that the male participant has previously undergone must also be elicited. Some medications like cimetidine and anabolic steroids are potent in diminishing the motility of the sperm cells. Others may in general, affect the male reproductive system itself.

Surgeries may also compromise male infertility. Bladder neck operations for example, create damaging effects on the emission of the sperm cells. If the person is diabetic and have undergone treatments, he may probably developed impotency or poor ejaculation.

There are other views why male infertility develops. If you were undergoing treatment, it would be good if you disclose all possible links to the development of your condition to your physician.

Hi all, I’m not presently trying to get pregnant, but I did have my hormone levels tested a few weeks ago.

My progesterone is low (about 3) and my testosterone is high at 94 (it’s actually normal, with anything over 100 being high)

My doctor prescribed Prometrium to raise my progesterone levels. But what I’m am worried about is the long term issues.

I would like to have more children and I’m wondering if my progesterone levels could be a sign of infertility, or if my levels being low could affect my chances of getting pregnant within the next few years.

I am 34 years old and dating a wonderful man who wants to have children some day. I would hate to move on further with the relationship and then not be able to have the children that he so desperately wants.

I’m so worried about it, since I care about him very much and I want to be with him, yet if I can’t have kids anymore (I have an 8 year old now) I would never want to take that away from him.

Help me!

To learn that one can’t conceive can be both overwhelming and depressing. The feeling of worthlessness and inferiority do affect people once they are aware they can’t conceive but certain causes of infertility can be reversed by treatment. With proper infertility treatments, you could get pregnant but even with causes that is irreversible, there is still hope as adoption can make up for the your inability to have children.

You could be hearing from someone you know who have problem with infertility and gradually many will take the position of someone who is knowledgeable about the subject but the truth is that many of their information are inaccurate. Infertility can be both embarrassing and hurtful and your frustration can be made worst by feeling that no one is able to understand what you are going through. It is essential to seek the facts so that you will know what to do.

Infertility will always be on a couples mind if they have been attempting to conceive for more than a year without success. Millions of American share the same problem and it is essential that you deal with it positively as negative feelings can cloud the issues. Reasons are aplenty when it comes to the issue of infertility and getting the facts right is vital to deal with the issue of infertility.

The statistics in United States for couples who are infertile is one in eight and seeking the help of a infertility expert is vital if you are keen to conceive. Just by getting rid of stress and anxiety will not automatically mean that you will be able to conceive as the causes of infertility are many and varied. The many underlying causes mean that you need to seek treatment as soon as possible.

The issue of infertility can cause a female to blame herself and most female worst fear is to be told that they are not able to produce children. The causes of female infertility can be many and varied and they include genetics, smoking, poor diet, complete lack of exercise, imbalances in their hormones, etc.

Lifestyle causes such as smoking, poor diet and lack of exercise can be corrected but in the case of genetics, it will be impossible. There is no need to fear and think that you are the main cause of infertility as male contribute to it as well. Tests with the infertility physician will determine the cause.

The causes of male infertility are due to low sperm count, irregular sperm, diseases, genetics, etc. Lifestyle characteristics such as smoking, drug use, poor diet, etc contribute to it as well. The male is as likely to cause infertility so it is essential that they get tested. If the male is the cause, a sperm sample is required and even blood and urine test are necessary to see if the cause is internal.

The cause for infertility can be different or men and women but they are mainly due to lifestyles. By changing your lifestyles, you can increase the possibility of conceiving. If there is blockages in the male reproductive organ, then surgical procedures can cure it. Toxins from the environment can contribute to it poor sperm quality too. As for female, problem with ovulation and menstruation can be the biggest cause, therefore it is essential for all organs to be functioning in order to couples to conceive.

There are many treatment options and you don’t just have to consider adoption, relaxation and assuming different positions while engaging in sex. Although adoption is not a cure, it can bring joy to couples by the wonderful addition to their home. Adopting relaxation techniques could help but it contributes not much to conception. How you perform in bed is your own and no one else business.

These are usually offered by well meaning people but there are proper infertility treatment options. By going for a full medical examination, the right treatment can be applied on your way to possible conception. Others, hormone pills or complex procedure like in vitro fertilization may be necessary.

Infertility experts can provide most of the answers and it is essential that you make the right treatment decision as every person is different but with the correct treatment, you are most likely to conceive.

Infertility is usually not permanent and for most couples, solutions are many and the route to treatments will end in healthy children. Adoption can be the means to expand the family unit and others might prefer to remain childless but whatever lifestyles you adopt, remain positive as infertility will not stick with you.

Me and my husband have been trying for 7 years. So I finally went and seen a infertility specialist. I took a blood test for progesterone and they told me it was low however I have never been pregnant, I have a normal 28 day cycle and Ive been using a fertility monitor that says I do ovulate. Could it be I just need to take some medicine to higher my progesterone or is that unlikely. If so are the chances pretty high for concieving by just making your progesterone higher?

Infertility is usually defined as not being able to get pregnant despite trying for one year. A broader view of infertility includes not being able to carry a pregnancy to term.

Problems with ovulation account for most infertility in women. Signs of problems with ovulation include irregular menstrual periods or no periods. Simple lifestyle factors, including stress, diet, or athletic training can affect a woman’s hormonal balance.

Many women trying to conceive for the first time panic if their periods continue for even three or four months. But the standard definition of infertility is unsuccessful conception after an entire year of unprotected intercourse

What is the cause of female infertility?

Infertility is a situation faced by many couples worldwide when they are unable to conceive. According to a survey in America, around 10% of couples bear the brunt of infertility. Usually when a couple is not able to conceive, the female partner is generally blamed, but the reality is that both the partners are equally responsible.

The most common cause of female infertility is an ovulation disorder. Other causes of female infertility include blocked fallopian tubes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis. Repeated miscarriages may be caused by congenital anomalies (birth defects) involving the structure of the uterus and uterine fibroids.

Signs and symptoms

The main symptom of infertility is the inability for a couple to get pregnant. There may be no other obvious symptoms of infertility.

In some cases, an infertile woman may have abnormal menstrual periods. An infertile man may have some signs of hormonal problems such as changes in hair growth or sexual function.

Diagnosis methods

Investigating suspected infertility requires a number of tests for both the woman and her partner. Tests for the woman may include:

* Blood tests - to check for the presence of ovulation hormones.

* Laparoscopy - a ‘keyhole’ surgical procedure in which an instrument is inserted though a small incision in the abdomen so that the reproductive organs can be examined.

* Ultrasound tests - to check for the presence of fibroids.

Treatment

The treatment of infertility has made enormous progress in the last decade as a result of advances in assisted reproductive technology, or ART. This technology combines the use of fertility drugs - hormonal therapy - with artificial insemination using any of a group of techniques: intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT), zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT), or oocyte (egg) donation.

Acupuncture may be helpful in the treatment of some cases of female infertility due to problems with ovarian function. In a preliminary trial, women who did not ovulate were treated with acupuncture 30 times over three months. Effectiveness was determined by a combination of measures indicating ovulation was returning to normal.

How can I help prevent infertility?

You may not be able to prevent infertility resulting from genetic problems or an illness. However, you can do the following to reduce the risk of infertility:

* Prevent sexually transmitted diseases by using latex or polyurethane condoms. Also, have just 1 sexual partner who is not sexually active with anyone else.

* Limit the amount of alcohol you drink to no more than 1 or 2 drinks a week.

* Avoid the use of street drugs (such as heroin) and overuse of prescription and nonprescription drugs.

* Do not smoke.

* Maintain good personal hygiene and health practices.

Infertility is a tough situation for women. Many of them conclude that they can’t conceive, but that is not true. At times it takes long to conceive and even if then one is not able to, and then these medical aids are there to help one out of these difficult situations.
